About

Joseph, Daniel and Richard met in 2016 whilst working at Blue Hill at Stone Barns in New York under Chef Dan Barber. Ever since becoming colleagues and close friends, they had a shared vision of owning and operating their own restaurant and hospitality company.

Higher Ground was first established as a pop-up restaurant concept at the start of 2020 in Manchester city centre and opened as a permanent restaurant in February 2023.

Cinderwood Market Garden, a 1.5 acre organic farm that grows vegetables and herbs for Higher Ground as well as many of Manchester’s well-known restaurants, was built by Joseph, Daniel and Richard in Cheshire at the beginning of 2021. Flawd, a neighbourhood wine bar and bottle shop in Ancoats, followed shortly after, opening in September 2021.

The team have worked in some of the world’s best restaurants and hotels such as noma, Relæ, Blue Hill at Stone Barns and Claridge’s, all of which have influenced their ethos and approach to both food and service.

They hope to bring the same level of hospitality to Manchester and look forward to welcoming you soon!
